Hungary does not have a traditional mosque as it is a predominantly Christian nation. However, there are a few mosques in Hungary, mostly located in cities with significant Muslim populations. The two notable mosques are the Great Mosque of Pecs and the Dohany Street Synagogue, which was built in the Moorish Revival style and is considered to be the largest synagogue in Europe. Hungary has a long and complicated history with Islam, having been part of the Ottoman Empire for over 150 years. During this time, many mosques were built in Hungary, but most were destroyed during the Habsburg and Austro-Hungarian occupations in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, the Muslim community in Hungary is relatively small, accounting for less than 1% of the population.
